Dental Bone Grafting Restores Healthy Volume Levels

When bone density is low, Dr. Carolina Giraldo can perform dental bone grafting procedures to improve overall volume. A dental bone graft is a procedure that transfers bone from one area of the body, typically the chin, to a site within the mouth. Donor tissue from bone banks may also be utilized. Dr. Giraldo permanently places the dental bone graft, which will then integrate with the existing bone. The result is increased bone volume.

This can lead to dimpling and unwanted changes in the appearance of your gum line. To correct this, Dr. Giraldo can perform a ridge augmentation to restore healthy bone levels and gum contours. With this technique, dental bone graft material is placed in the socket and the tissue above it is smoothed, delivering a healthier smile. A similar procedure, ridge preservation, incorporates dental bone grafts at the time of tooth extraction in order to compensate for future bone loss.

Sinus Augmentation or Sinus Lift to Repair the Damage of Tooth Loss

Missing teeth in the upper back molar areas can affect the positioning of your sinus cavity. The membrane can sink into the gap left by bone loss. A sinus augmentation, utilizing dental bone grafts, can increase bone density in that area. A sinus lift is a procedure performed to lift the sinus membrane into its proper position and maintain it by placing dental bone grafts below. A sinus lift is sometimes recommended before dental implant placement; Dr. Giraldo will be able to determine whether you need a sinus lift during your examination.
